Ammonia is a colourless gas with a unique odor, but it can also be met as a liquid. Most commercial window cleaners contain ammonia as a main ingredient because of the glass cleaning ability of the ammonia. However, instead of spending money on a commercial cleaner, you can make your own window cleaner by mixing proper ingredients. Properly done, a homemade window cleaner will be just as efficient as a cleaning product bought from a store and also, it will save you money which is the main reason many people to prefer it over the commercial cleaners.
Instructions
- Pour 1 gallon of warm water into a bucket, and add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, ½ cup of white distilled vinegar and ½ cup of ammonia. Stir the mixture thoroughly with a tall spoon until the cornstarch is completely dissolved.
- Get an empty spray bottle and fill it up with the mixture you have made. Use a funnel to prevent spilling a window cleaner outside of the spray bottle.
- Use as much of the mixture as you need and the rest store in a cool dry place until you need it again.
You can make an alternative window cleaner of that described above by mixing 1 gallon of water with 2 cups of rubbing alcohol, ½ cup of ammonia and 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap that doesn’t contain bleach. Do not mix ammonia with bleach or products containing bleach under any circumstances, as a poisonous gas may result. For very dirty windows with which you don’t know how to deal, consider using professional cleaning services.
